Another child dies with measles symptoms in Sylhet

The measles situation in Sylhet remains concerning as another child died while undergoing treatment with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours.
During the same period, 108 people with suspected measles were admitted to hospitals across the division. The number of deaths among patients with measles symptoms in Sylhet division has now reached 139 since January 1.
The information was released in a report by the Directorate General of Health Services’ Sylhet divisional office on Wednesday.
No new confirmed measles cases were reported in the past 24 hours. However, 108 patients with suspected measles were admitted to hospitals, including 35 at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, 48 at MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, six at Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital, two at North East Hospital and 15 at Moulvibazar District Sadar Hospital. Patients were also admitted to Bahubal Upazila Health Complex in Habiganj.
Currently, 317 patients with measles symptoms are receiving treatment at hospitals across the division.
The child who died in the past 24 hours was a four-month-old from Ratanpur area of South Surma upazila in Sylhet. The child died while undergoing treatment at Osmani Medical College Hospital.
According to the health department, 988 confirmed measles cases have been recorded in Sylhet division between January 1 and August 19. Of these, 320 were reported in Sylhet, 153 in Habiganj, 158 in Moulvibazar and 357 in Sunamganj. Two of the confirmed cases in Habiganj were diagnosed with rubella.
