US Embassy issues new guidelines for Bangladeshi medical visa applicants

The US Embassy in Dhaka on 25 July issued new guidelines for individuals seeking B-2 visas to receive medical treatment in the United States.
In a statement posted on its verified Facebook page, the embassy said applicants must demonstrate their ability to cover all medical expenses, incidental costs, and travel to and from the United States.
Consular officers review every application to ensure that an applicant’s travel plans do not impose a financial burden on US taxpayers, the embassy added.
Under the new directives, medical visa applicants must submit a local physician’s prescription explaining why treatment in the United States is necessary. Applicants must also provide an acceptance letter from a US physician detailing the estimated duration and cost of the treatment.
Furthermore, applicants must present proof of sufficient funds to cover transport, medical care, and living expenses during their stay in the United States.
