Bganladesh keen to work with Netherlands in media, communication sector

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon today expressed that Bangladesh is interested in working with the Netherlands in the field of media and communication.
He made the remark when Dutch Ambassador to Bangladesh Joris van Bommel met him at his Secretariat office here.
During the meeting, the minister said the incumbent government has been trying to bring about qualitative changes in its work.
In the current information technology world, he said, new challenges are being emerged due to new media, artificial intelligence and digital ecosystem.
Swapon mentioned that it is the responsibility of the state to ensure freedom of expression and at the same time protect the people from misinformation and disinformation.
He stressed formulating a specific strategy in this regard and expressed his interest in knowing how the Netherlands is working in this regard.
The Dutch envoy congratulated the Information Minister on assuming the responsibility.
He said since independence, the Netherlands has had a strong bilateral relationship with Bangladesh, which has now expanded to various fields including education, health, development, trade and commerce.
He expressed his interest in working with the Bangladesh government to further strengthen this relationship.
Joris van Bommel put emphasis on formulation of a new framework to address digital challenges.
He informed the minister of the various activities undertaken by the Netherlands in this regard.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana and Additional Secretary Md Shah Alam were present.
