Gold prices in Bangladesh fell sharply again on Thursday as the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk4,432 per bhori, a day after announcing a major cut.
Under the revised rates, one bhori (11.664 grammes) of 22-carat gold now costs Tk218,350, down from Tk222,782.
BAJUS announced the latest adjustment through a statement on Thursday morning with the new rates coming into effect from 10am.
The association said the price of pure gold declined in the local market, prompting the revision.
According to the new price list, one bhori of 21-carat gold now costs Tk208,436, while 18-carat gold sells for Tk178,692 per bhori. Gold produced under the traditional method now costs Tk145,508 per bhori.
BAJUS said it reviewed overall market conditions before setting the new rates.
The latest reduction came just one day after the association cut the price of 22-carat gold by Tk6,591 per bhori. On June 10, BAJUS set the price of 22-carat gold at Tk222,782 per bhori following that adjustment.
The two consecutive revisions have reduced the price of 22-carat gold by a combined Tk11,023 per bhori within 24 hours, reflecting the recent decline in global gold prices.
