5 children die with measles-like symptoms in Sylhet in 24hrs

Five children have died within a single day in Sylhet while undergoing treatment for measles-like symptoms. The deaths occurred over the past 24 hours in various hospitals across the Sylhet region. This is the first time as many as five children have died in a single day due to measles-related symptoms; previously, the highest number recorded in a single day was three.
The deaths were confirmed on Friday morning (May 22) in a report issued by the office of the Divisional Health Director of Sylhet.
Among the deceased children, three were from Sunamganj, while one each was from Sylhet and Habiganj. With these deaths, the total number of children who have died from measles and measles-like symptoms in the Sylhet division has reached 47. Of these, four deaths were confirmed to be due to measles, while the remaining 43 were children who died with measles-like symptoms.
According to the latest report from the Sylhet Divisional Health Office, two children died within the past 24 hours while undergoing treatment for measles-like symptoms at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital—one from Sunamganj and the other from Habiganj.
During the same period, two more children died at Shahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital; they were from Sunamganj and Sylhet.
Additionally, one child died at Sunamganj District Hospital within the last 24 hours; the child was from Sunamganj.
The report also states that 74 new children with measles infection and symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the Sylhet division in the past 24 hours. Currently, 283 children are receiving treatment in various hospitals.
