3 get life term for Sunamganj gang-rape

A Sunamganj court has sentenced three individuals to life imprisonment for gang-raping a young woman in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj district on Monday.
Judge Muhammad Habibullah of Sunamganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict.
The convicts are Motiur Rahman Matin, Dildar Hossain and Billal Hossain, all residents of Chhatak upazila.
According to the case details, on August 11, 2021, Motiur and Dildar abducted a young woman while she was on her way to her maternal grandparents’ house. They took her to a relative’s house in Singchapair village, where they repeatedly raped her.
Later, Billal and another accomplice took the victim to a different village and subjected her to further sexual assault. When locals came to know about the incident they apprehend the culprits and handed them over to the police.
Following the incident, the victim’s brother filed a case with Chhatak Police Station, naming five individuals including the three prime accused. After a detailed trial, the tribunal delivered its judgment.
Special Public Prosecutor Md. Shamsur Rahman confirmed that Motiur and Dildar were present in court during the verdict, while Billal remains at large.
Expressing satisfaction with the ruling, the state counsel remarked that justice has been successfully served.
