37814 households receive assistance under Family Card prog: PM

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday said that 37,814 female heads of low-income and vulnerable households have been brought under the Family Card programme to provide social protection.
He said each of these households is receiving a monthly allowance of Tk2,500 to support marginal and low-income families.
The Prime Minister made the remarks in response to a written question from Tangail-6 lawmaker Md Robiul Awal during a session of the Jatiya Sangsad. The session was chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
Tarique Rahman said the government is working to build a safe, equitable and climate-resilient Bangladesh, where women and children will be equal partners in sustainable development and future generations will inherit a prosperous nation.
He also said that the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs is implementing various programmes aimed at the overall development and welfare of women and children.
These include the Vulnerable Women Benefit (VWB) programme for improving the socio-economic condition of poor women; the Mother and Child Support Programme to ensure maternal nutrition during pregnancy and support children’s physical and intellectual development; microcredit initiatives for women’s self-employment; and the operation of the Joyeeta Foundation to market products made by women entrepreneurs.
