Two more children die with measles-like symptoms in Sylhet

Two more children died with measles-like symptoms in Sylhet on Sunday, raising the death toll to 10 in the region.
A one-and-a-half-year-old child, Waziha, from Jagannathpur, died while undergoing treatment at Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Besides, an eight-month-old infant, Taha, from Golapganj, also passed away in the same unit.
The hospital’s director, Brigadier General Omar Rashid Munir, confirmed the matter. He said Waziha had been admitted to the PICU on the night of April 21. She was suspected of having measles, along with complications including bronchopneumonia, heart failure, and surgical emphysema.
Taha, who was admitted to the hospital on April 24, was also suffering from heart failure and bronchopneumonia, according to hospital sources. Meanwhile, two more patients remain in critical condition.
In the last 24 hours alone, 64 new patients with measles-like symptoms have been admitted to hospitals in Sylhet. Currently, a total of 190 patients are undergoing treatment, with the highest number—107 patients—admitted to Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.
