Ex-minister Nuruzzaman shown arrested in fresh case

A court on Monday showed former Social Welfare minister Md Nuruzzaman Ahmed, 70, arrested in a murder case filed at Jatrabari Police Station in connection with the anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order following a plea by the case’s investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md Abdul Karim of Jatrabari Police Station, State Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon said.
According to the petition, Jubayed Islam was shot dead by the accused at around 7:30pm on 20 July 2024 under the underpass near Gobindapur Bazar in the Shonir Akhra area of Jatrabari.
The petition states that Md Nuruzzaman Ahmed is a suspect identified during the investigation and that his involvement has also been found. Showing him arrested in this case is deemed necessary for the sake of a fair and proper investigation.
