Ex-DGFI DG Mamun Khaled sent to jail after remand

A court on Monday sent former director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Lt Gen (retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled Chowdhury to jail in a case filed over the attack on the BNP central office in Nayapaltan and the killing of a party activist named Makbul.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order, defence lawyer Advocate Morshed Hossain Shahin confirmed.
Earlier in the day, police produced him before the court after the completion of the fifth round of remand in two cases following his arrest on the night of 25 March.
According to the case documents, the case was filed against 256 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, over the attack on the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on 7 December 2022 and the killing of a party activist named Makbul.
The case was lodged at Paltan Model Police Station on 30 September 2024 by a complainant named Mahfuzar Rahman.
