Hamza’s Leicester teeters on League One trapdoor

Leicester City, home to Bangladesh midfielder Hamza Choudhury, are staring at relegation to League One after slumping deeper into crisis in the EFL Championship on Sunday.
A 1–0 home defeat to Swansea City on 11 April left the Foxes marooned in 23rd place, inside the relegation zone, with only four matches remaining.
Leicester’s survival hopes were further hammered when their appeal against a six-point deduction was rejected, a blow that has severely damaged their fight to stay up.
Their form has been disastrous, just one win in their last 16 matches — turning every remaining fixture into a must-win battle.
Despite the turmoil, Hamza has been a dependable figure throughout the 2025–26 campaign, operating as both a defensive midfielder and a right-back and even captaining the side earlier in the season.
The Bangladesh international has made 26 Championship appearances, including 14 starts, contributing defensive steel and composure before a minor knee injury briefly disrupted his run.
The midfielder and his club now face a grim historical threat. Relegation would mark the second consecutive drop in as many seasons, something that has happened only once before in their 142-year history.
Almost a decade after their fairytale Premier League title triumph, Leicester are now perilously close to falling into the third tier, where they have spent just one season previously.
Recently appointed manager Gary Rowett has been tasked with salvaging the campaign, but has struggled to arrest the slide.
A 1–1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday offered little relief as momentum continues to evade them.
With tough fixtures looming against sides such as Portsmouth and Hull, Leicester’s fate now hangs by a thread, and time is running out fast.
