Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Monday said members of the current parliament have Tk3,330.08 crore in default loans.
However, he mentioned that a portion of this sum can be regarded as regular loans due to court suspension orders on classifying these as default, and related legal complexities.
He revealed the information in reply to a question from Cumilla-4 lawmaker Hasnat Abdullah during a parliament session. Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal presided over the session.
In total, the lawmakers of the 13th parliament have Tk11,117.31 crore in loans, the finance minister said. These loans were taken from banks and other financial institutions of the country in personal capacity and as stakeholders in different organisations, he informed the parliament.
