An eight-bed dedicated ward for measles patients has been opened at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) following a recent rise in measles infections across the country.
BMU Director (Hospital) Brig Gen Irteka Rahman said the ward has been set up on the second floor of Block C and may be expanded further depending on patient needs. A measles screening centre has also been launched to help detect and manage cases more effectively.
On Thursday (2 April), Irteka along with Deputy Director (Hospital) Dr Mohammad Abu Naser and other officials visited the measles ward to review treatment facilities.
Currently, four patients are admitted to the ward.
Authorities have also formed a monitoring cell to oversee the measles situation. In addition, a decision has been taken to open another screening centre at Outpatient Department (OPD)-2 and to establish an extended isolation ward on the second floor of Block F to strengthen preparedness.
Hospital authorities said the initiatives are part of efforts to enhance patient care and prevent the further spread of the disease.
