Bangladesh, France explore stronger bilateral ties

Bangladesh and France on Monday discussed ways to expand cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade and investment, climate action, culture, women’s empowerment, sustainable development, education and skills development, connectivity, migration and global peace and security.
The discussions also covered regional and global developments, highlighting the importance of dialogue, mutual respect, restraint and adherence to international law to maintain peace and stability worldwide.
The talks took place during a courtesy call by French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean‑Marc Séré‑Charlet on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ambassador congratulated the State Minister on her recent assumption of office and expressed optimism that bilateral relations between Bangladesh and France would be further strengthened during her tenure.
State Minister Shama Obaed Islam acknowledged France’s longstanding development cooperation with Bangladesh across various sectors and expressed interest in exploring new opportunities to deepen trade and investment relations with the European Union, aiming to sustain the competitiveness of Bangladeshi exports in the EU market.
She also sought France’s support for Bangladesh’s candidature for the Presidency of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly for 2026-2027.
Ambassador Séré‑Charlet reaffirmed France’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Bangladesh to advance their shared vision of peace, prosperity and progress.
