3 establishments fined in Moulvibazar over food safety violations

A mobile court fined three business establishments a total of Tk 2.2 lakh for preparing and selling food in unhygienic conditions in Moulvibazar’s Kulaura upazila on Wednesday.
According to administration, a team of officials led by Assistant Commissioner and executive magistrate Md Abid Hossain conducted a drive in different areas of the municipal town and fined three business establishments for various irregularities.
During the drive, Dining Delight restaurant was fined Tk 1.5 lakh for several violations, including using artificial colour in kacchi biryani, washing meat in a sink, storing expired buns, using burnt cooking oil and operating without a restaurant licence.
Another restaurant, Pakshi, was fined Tk 20,000 for maintaining a dirty and foul-smelling kitchen, storing rotten grilled items and curry in a refrigerator, presence of flies and insects, using burnt oil, lack of soap in the washroom and cooking with partially washed eggs.
Meanwhile, Rajmahal establishment was fined Tk 50,000 for selling baby food packets infested with insects, expired products, unapproved kewra water, foreign goods without importer seals and stale sweets and bakarkhani.
District Acting Food Safety Officer Md Shakib Hossain confirmed the drive.
Officials said the drive was part of an effort to ensure food safety and maintain hygiene standards in local food establishments.
