President, PM pay tributes to martyrs of Language Movement

President Md Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have paid tributes to the martyrs of the historic Language Movement on the occasion of Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day.
The heads of the state and the government paid their homage by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital in the first hour on Saturday.
The President was the first to place the wreath at 12:01am and departed. And then the Prime Minister entered the Shaheed Minar and paid tributes at 12:07am.
Both the President and Prime Minister separately stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the language heroes.
A munajat was offered,seeking the Jannat for the martyers of the Language Movement and others.
After that, the ministers and state ministers led by the Prime Minister paid homage at 12:16am.
And then, the Prime Minister, on behalf of the Zia family, paid tribute.
The chiefs of the three services–Army, Air Force and Navy–placed the wreaths.
Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the leader of opposition in the 13th parliament Dr Shafiqur Rahman, opposition lawmakers and senior leaders of the party paid homage.
Then, the foreign diplomats tributed by placing floral wreaths followed by the chief election commissioner and commissioners.
The cabinet secretary, acting attorney general, PSC chairman and BGB chief, UGC and others.
Later, the Shaheed Minar was opened to the public.
People from various walks of life waited in long queues to honour the heroic sons of the country, who laid down their lives during Language Movement in 1952 to protect the mother tongue, Bangla, began to pay tributes with flowers at the memorial.
The first phase of the occasion at the Central Shaheed Minar will continue till 3:00am while the second phase will begin from 6:30am, announced the moderator.
All-out security measures were found to have been taken in and around the Shaheed Minar.
Recitations from poems, songs– Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano Ekushey February–and history of the Language Movement with the foundation of the Central Shaheed Minar were done again and again.
