The Bangladesh women’s national football team have reached Australia to take part in the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup, marking a historic moment for the nation as they prepare for their first appearance in the continental tournament.
Carrying high hopes, the Bangladesh squad landed at Sydney Airport at around 10pm local time on Friday.
The team had departed in the early hours of the previous day, travelling via Thailand before reaching Australia.
Setting foot 13 days ahead of the tournament, the players aim to acclimatise to local conditions and fine-tune their preparations.
The team will begin training immediately and hold a week-long preparatory camp at Valentine Sports Park.
During their stay, they are also expected to play a closed-door friendly match against the Western Sydney Wanderers FC, likely on 26 February, to sharpen their match fitness.
Following the camp, the squad will move to the official AFC-designated hotel on 27 February.
Bangladesh will open their Asian Cup campaign on 3 March against nine-time champions China at Sydney’s Western Stadium.
They will then face three-time champions North Korea on 6 March, before concluding their group-stage fixtures against Uzbekistan in Perth on 9 March.
