Border Guard Bangladesh Director General Maj Gen Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui inaugurated the Saint Martin Border Outpost (BOP) under the Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) and the newly established Sea Beach BOP in Teknaf, strengthening security along the coastal border.
The BGB chief opened the Saint Martin BOP, which includes modern accommodation for troops. The new facility aims to ensure the safety of on-duty personnel, raise efficiency and morale, and enhance overall operational capability. Officials said the outpost will make security operations on Saint Martin Island more dynamic and effective.
Siddiqui later inaugurated the Sea Beach BOP at Lengurbil in Teknaf. The outpost features modern, visually appealing architecture and includes all essential facilities. BGB officials said the Sea Beach BOP will reinforce border security while improving the safety, performance, morale and operational readiness of personnel stationed there.
Saint Martin Island, located about 16 kilometres south of Teknaf upazila, remained under the security responsibility of the then Bangladesh Rifles until 1997, after which authorities handed over duties to the Bangladesh Coast Guard. Considering the strategic importance of the border area, Border Guard Bangladesh redeployed personnel on the island on 7 April 2019. With the inauguration of the BOP, the Saint Martin outpost has now begun full-scale operations.
