Firearm and explosives seized in Sylhet

Rapid Action Battalion seized a firearm and other explosive materials from Goainghat, an upazila along the Indian border in Sylhet on early Saturday.

RAB-9 media officer KM Shahidul Islam Sohag told that acting on a tip-off, a team of the battalion conducted a drive at Toakul Bazar under the Gowainghat upazila at about 12:30am.

‘During the drive, the RAB personnel recovered a single-barrel gun, four India-made power gels, five non-electric detonators and 200 grams of gun powder in an abandoned state from the area,’ he said.

The RAB officer said that the seized arm and detonators might have been collected to use in sabotage missions.

‘The seized arm and explosives were handed over to the Goainghat police station after recording a general diary,’ he said.
