Commuters using Dhaka’s popular Metro Rail can now recharge their MRT and Rapid Pass cards online following the launch of a remote top-up system.
They will no longer need to stand in long queues at stations to top up their permanent travel cards.
The service was inaugurated on Tuesday morning at Agargaon Metro Station by Sheikh Moinuddin, special assistant to the chief adviser for the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry.
Under the new system, users must register on the designated website before recharging a minimum of Tk 100 and a maximum of Tk 5,000 per transaction.
Moinuddin said, “There are 16 metro stations. We have installed two of these machines at each stations. If you recharge from home or outside the station and come back and tab on the machine, your recharge will be shown as successful.”
The new system allows the travel passes to be recharged through any online banking system, including bank credit cards, bKash, Nagad and Rocket.
In order to do so, users will have to register and login on the DTCA website or mobile app.
