Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation (Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation) has announced that vehicles will continue operating across the country on November 16 and 17 defying the Awami League’s ‘lockdown’.
Humayun Kabir Khan, acting general secretary of the federation, made the announcement at a press conference at its central office on RAJUK Avenue in Dhaka’s Motijheel on Sunday morning.
The AL had threatened to enforce the lockdown in protest against the trial of Sheikh Hasina in a case over crimes against humanity during last year’s July uprising.
The government has assured the federation of compensation if any vehicle or transport worker comes under attack during the lockdown, Khan said, reading from a written statement.
