SC upholds Latif Siddique’s bail, no bar to release

Former minister Abdul Latif Siddique has secured bail in a case filed under the Anti-terrorism Act.
An Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday upheld the High Court order which granted bail to former minister Abdul Latif Siddique in a case filed under the Anti-terrorism Act.
A three-member HC bench of Justice Jubayer Rahman Chowdhury issued the order after holding a hearing.
But the court adjourned the bail hearing of co-accused journalist Monjurul Alam Panna.
Now there is no legal barrier forLatif Siddiqueto release.
Earlier, the state had appealed to the Chamber Court seeking a stay on the High Court’s bail order.
Latif Siddiqui and several others were arrested on August 28 from a “Manch-71” event at the Dhaka Reporters Unity. The next day, 16 people, including Siddiqui, Hafizur Rahman Karzon, and Md Abdullah Al Amin, were sent to jail in the same case.
