Bangladesh’s premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named captain of the Royal Champs, newest franchise in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
The franchise, which signed Shakib last month, will make its debut in this year’s tournament and has entrusted the veteran with the leadership role, citing his experience, tactical acumen and proven record in franchise cricket.
In an official statement, the team expressed confidence that Shakib’s presence would bring balance, motivation and strategic depth to the squad.
Despite being newcomers, Royal Champs have left no stone unturned in their preparation for the high-intensity 10-over format.
An elated Shakib shared his excitement after being appointed captain:
“It’s an honour to lead Royal Champs in their maiden T10 campaign. I’m thrilled to work with such a talented group of players and an excellent coaching staff. As a new team, our enthusiasm and determination are at their peak. We want to deliver an exciting, competitive, and memorable tournament for the fans.”
Head coach Courtney Walsh praised the team’s balance and adaptability, saying:
“We’ve built a well-rounded squad capable of handling the fast pace of T10 cricket. Every player understands his role and responsibility.”
The 2025 Abu Dhabi T10 League will kick off on 18 November with a match between Quetta Cavalry and Northern Warriors.
The Royal Champs will make their debut the following day, 19 November, against Vista Riders, marking the start of their journey under Shakib’s leadership.
