BNP leader and former state minister for education ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon on Friday demanded that the government clarify why he was barred from traveling abroad for medical treatment.
Milon said he discovered the travel restriction at the immigration counter of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while attempting to fly to Bangkok on Thursday morning.
“I was informed there that a travel ban had been imposed on me,” he told reporters at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club.
When asked about the reason for the ban, Milon said he received no clear explanation. “I want to know why I was not allowed to travel. This government was formed after the mass uprising of 2024 and my party, BNP, has supported Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and his interim government from the beginning,” he added.
Milon expressed confidence that the government would not be misled by false information or cnospiracies. “I hope the authorities will take proper steps to safeguard the constitutional, civil and human rights of all citizens, including mine,” he said.
The former state minister emphasized his loyalty to the state and his commitment to upholding the rule of law, saying he is ready to fully cooperate with the government for the welfare of the country and its people.
Milon also recalled giving up his US citizenship and passport to join politics out of love for Bangladesh. He criticized Awami League’s past government, which he described as a “fascist rule,” saying many opposition leaders, including BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, were prevented from traveling abroad.
He noted that during Awami League’s tenure, he himself faced travel restrictions, which forced him to seek intervention from the Supreme Court.
The court later directed the government not to obstruct his movements abroad or upon return.
