General Meeting and Election of the Council of Mosques Completed – Shamsul Haque Chairman, Sirajul Islam Hira General Secretary, Mohammad Abdul Munim Jahedi Karol Treasurer

London, 19 November 2025 : The general meeting and election of the ‘Council of Mosques’, the central organization managing the mosques of Tower Hamlets, were successfully held at the London Muslim Centre on Saturday, 18 November 2025.
The new executive committee was elected through direct voting by the organization’s councillors and representatives.
The election was conducted by Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets Council, Mr. Lutfur Rahman, assisted by Azam Khan and Koyesh Ahmed.
Newly Elected Committee (2025–2027):
•Chairman: Hafez Maulana Shamsul Haque
•General Secretary: Sirajul Islam Hira
•Treasurer: Md. Abdul Munim Jahedi Karol
•Senior Vice-Chairman: Alhaj Farooq Ahmed
•Vice-Chairman: Muhammad Shamsul Haque
•Deputy Secretary: Mahfuz Rob
•Executive Members: Muhammad Atiq Miah, Basir Ahmad, Nurul Ullah, Nurul Amin, Musleh Uddin (Darul Hadith Latifia), Maulana Musleh Uddin, Itawar Hossain Mujib, Arju Mia, Mohin Uddin Majumder, and Ataur Rahman.
The newly elected committee will lead the Council of Mosques for the next two years, continuing its role as the umbrella organization for mosques across Tower Hamlets.
Remarks from the Chief Electoral Commissioner:
Executive Mayor Mr. Lutfur Rahman congratulated the new committee and stated:
“The Council and the local community will work together to maintain unity and solidarity against the divisive efforts of far-right groups in Tower Hamlets.”
He also highlighted the success of the recent ‘Tower Hamlets Unity Demo’—a solidarity event aimed at promoting peace, tolerance, and togetherness among local residents.
Community Leaders’ Views:
The meeting was attended by prominent community figures including Dr. Abdul Hai Murshed, Chairman of East London Mosque; Ahmed Malik, Chairman of Darul Ummah Mosque; and leaders from various mosques across the borough.
Speakers at the meeting emphasized the vital role of mosques and religious leaders in addressing social issues such as drugs, knife crime, and youth challenges.
They noted that the Council of Mosques is not only a religious leadership body but also a driving force for social and community development in Tower Hamlets.
