3 killed as CNG hit by truck in Sunamganj

Three people, including a mother and her daughter, were killed after a CNG-run auto-rickshaw was hit by a truck at Shantiganj upazila of Sunamganj on Friday morning.
The accident took place on the Sylhet-Sunamganj regional highway near Shatrumardan Bagherkona village under Paschim Pagla union of the upazila.
The deseased were identified as Akhi Chowdhury, 42, a resident of Ukilpara in Sunamganj town; her daughter Prothoma Chowdhury, a seventh-grade student at Satish Chandra Girls’ High School and Sajal Ghosh, 50, the driver of CNG, hailing from Nabinagar area.
According to local sources, Akhi and her daughter were on their way to Sylhet from Sunamganj by auto-rickshaw early in the morning. When the vehicle reached Shantiganj, a truck coming from the opposite direction struck the CNG and pushed it into a roadside water body.
Two of the victims died on the spot. Prothoma was rescued in critical condition and rushed to upazila health complex, where doctors declared her dead.
Shantiganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Ahad confirmed the incident, saying, “Three people, including a mother and daughter, were killed after a truck rammed into their CNG. The truck driver has been detained and legal proceedings are underway.”
