Six witnesses have testified in three corruption cases against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 22 others over alleged misuse of power in securing residential plots under Rajuk’s Purbachal New Town Project.
On Tuesday, Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 recorded statements from officials of Sonali Bank and the tax department. As no defense lawyers were present, the witnesses were not cross-examined. The court set September 17 for the next hearing.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed six separate cases in January, accusing Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, niece and UK MP Tulip Siddiq, nephew Radwan Mujib Siddiq, daughter Azmira Siddiq and others of abusing state power to secure 10-katha plots in Sector 27 of the Purbachal project despite being ineligible.
Charges have already been framed in all six cases. Arrest warrants remain outstanding as the accused are absconding.
