The 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup will feature a record-breaking prize pool of $13.88 million, outstripping the men’s edition by more than a third, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Monday.
This marks a massive jump from the $3.5 million awarded in 2022 and significantly eclipses the $10 million total prize pot from the last Men’s World Cup.
Key figures:
Total prize pool: $13.88 million
Winners: $4.48 million (up from $1.32 million in 2022)
Runners-up: $2.24 million (up from $600,000 in 2022)
ICC Chairman Jay Shah hailed the move as a “landmark moment” for women’s cricket.
“This four-fold increase in prize money is a defining milestone,” Shah said. “Our message is simple — women cricketers must know they will be treated on par with men if they choose this sport professionally.”
The 13th edition of the Women’s ODI World Cup begins on September 30 and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The final is set for November 2, to be held in Mumbai or Colombo, depending on whether Pakistan reach the final.
Key tournament details:
Opening match: India vs Sri Lanka in Guwahati
Pakistan will play all their matches in Colombo, as part of a neutral venue arrangement due to political sensitivities with India.
This is the first time prize money in a major ICC women’s tournament has exceeded that of the men’s.
The move reflects the ICC’s growing focus on gender parity and investment in the global growth of women’s cricket.
