A total of 98 Bangladeshis have denied entry into Malaysia through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, due to a failure to provide necessary documents.
The country’s Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) identified the “invalid document holders” while screening 181 foreigners at the airport during 1AM to 7:30AM on Friday (August 15), according to state news agency Bernama reports.
The alleged Bangladeshis used the late-night flights potentially to avoid heightened security measures at daytime, AKPS said in a statement.
“Among the key reasons for refusal of entry include the use of fake hotel bookings, lack of return tickets and a failure to prove sufficient financial means to stay in Malaysia,” it added.
The alleged foreigners were under a “false sense of security” that lax airport security at night would allow them to enter and work illegally in the Southeast Asian country, the officials said.
