In a late-night operation, joint forces recovered around 12,000 cubic feet of illegally extracted stones from the popular tourist spot ‘Shada Pathor’ (White Stone) in Sylhet.
The stones were looted from the banks of the Dhalai River and transported elsewhere, but law enforcement agencies managed to retrieve and return them to the site.
The operation began after midnight on Wednesday (August 13) and continued throughout the night, led by the district administration in coordination with law enforcement agencies. Stones were recovered from several locations along the riverbank and re-deposited into the river at Shada Pathor.
Local sources confirmed that multiple trucks used to transport the looted stones were intercepted, and the stones on board were seized by the authorities.
Earlier that evening, an emergency coordination meeting was held at the Sylhet Circuit House, organized by the divisional and district administrations. In the meeting, it was decided that a joint force would be deployed round-the-clock in the Shada Pathor area to prevent further looting and to safeguard the natural site.
