Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus returned to Dhaka on Wednesday night after a three-day official visit to Malaysia, during which the two countries agreed to deepen cooperation in areas such as technology, energy, migration and economic innovation.
Prof Yunus and his delegation arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:10pm on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, according to his Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
The visit marked a significant step forward in Bangladesh-Malaysia relations, with both sides expressing interest in exploring emerging opportunities in sectors including the semiconductor industry, the halal economy, renewable energy and entrepreneurship.
Speaking at a programme in Kuala Lumpur, Prof Yunus highlighted the strong, long-standing ties between the two nations, built on mutual respect, cultural exchange, and shared aspirations for growth.
“Bangladesh and Malaysia have walked together in many ways. We have supported each other in our journeys toward growth and prosperity,” he said, adding that Malaysia has played a key role in helping Bangladesh develop its human resources and technological capacity.
On Tuesday, Prof Yunus held official talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya.
The two leaders witnessed the signing of five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and the exchange of three official notes, aimed at strengthening collaboration in various sectors.
Migration was a key focus of the discussions, with Bangladesh raising concerns over the situation of undocumented or irregular Bangladeshi migrants in Malaysia.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed that the issue was addressed at the highest level, adding that while long-term structural challenges remain in migration management, efforts are underway to resolve them.
The visit reflects Bangladesh’s broader diplomatic strategy to engage with strategic partners in Southeast Asia, as the country enters what officials are calling a “new era” of development and international cooperation.
