A defamation case seeking Tk 10 crore in compensation has been filed against Sarjis Alam, the northern regional chief organizer of the Nationalist Citizen Party (NCP), for allegedly spreading misinformation on social media linking the BNP to the murder of journalist Tuhin.
The petition was submitted on Tuesday (August 12) by Tanvir Siraj, president of BNP’s Basan Thana unit in Gazipur, at Gazipur Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2. The case was heard by Judge Alamgir Al Mamun.
Tanvir Siraj said, “Journalist Tuhin was brutally murdered for recording footage of a criminal gang. However, without knowing the facts, Sarjis Alam posted false and misleading statements on Facebook implicating BNP, damaging the party’s reputation.”
He added, “The Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner has already uncovered the real motive behind the murder and confirmed that there was no political involvement. Based on the party’s directive, I have filed this case to protect our image and seek justice.”
Following the hearing, the court ordered Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Gazipur to investigate the allegations and submit a report.
