BIDA submits final semiconductor roadmap to CA

Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), on Thursday presented the final recommendations of the National Semiconductor Task Force to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The task force, formed on January 1, 2025, includes representatives from the government, private sector, academia, and Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRBs). Its mandate was to evaluate Bangladesh’s existing semiconductor landscape, explore growth opportunities, and formulate a strategic framework for the industry’s development over short, medium, and long-term horizons.
“We have recommended prioritising the chip design as well as testing and packaging sectors by assessing Bangladesh’s capacity to compete in various phases of the semiconductor industry,” said Chowdhury.
The report outlines 23 strategic recommendations under three main pillars: Skill Development, Business Environment and Policy Support, and Global Partnership.
To ensure progress, the Office of the Chief Adviser will establish an executive committee made up of key stakeholders tasked with implementing the roadmap
With global efforts underway to diversify semiconductor supply chains, Bangladesh’s strategic positioning could help it emerge as an investment-friendly destination in the industry. Chowdhury expressed confidence that successive governments will continue to back these initiatives to foster long-term growth and innovation.
