Barcelona is on the verge of locking in one of football’s brightest young talents, Lamin Yamal, with a new six-year contract that could keep the Spanish prodigy at Camp Nou until 2031.
The club aims to reward Yamal’s outstanding performances and commitment by extending his stay and improving his contract terms ahead of his 18th birthday this July.
Barcelona initially signed Yamal in 2023 on a three-year deal due to Spanish legal restrictions on contracts for players under 18.
However, following months of positive negotiations between the club and Yamal’s agent Jorge Mendes, a longer-term agreement is now within reach.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently held a promising meeting with Mendes, signaling club’s intention to secure Yamal’s future amid growing interest.
At just 17, Yamal has already made a huge impact, featuring in over 100 matches for Barcelona’s first team. This season, he has impressed with 18 goals and 25 assists across 55 appearances, including key performances in Champions League semifinals against Inter Milan and crucial La Liga clashes against Real Madrid.
His contributions helped Barcelona secure the domestic treble, winning La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
Yamal joined Barcelona’s youth academy at the age of seven and swiftly progressed through the ranks, making his senior debut under coach Xavi Hernandez at just 15.
He has also become an important figure for Spain’s national team, notably shining in last summer’s UEFA European Championship.
The new contract will include a significant salary increase, personal incentives, and bonuses; including a hefty reward if Yamal wins Ballon d’Or, an honor he is already being tipped as a future contender for. His list of accolades for young players is already impressive, featuring awards such as Copa Trophy, Golden Boy, and 2025 Laureus World Sports Award for Breakthrough of the Year.
Barcelona’s commitment to Yamal underscores their faith in his potential to be a cornerstone of the club’s future success.
