‘Verdict influenced by mob pressure’: Legal notice served to Sarjis

Published: 24 May 2025, 2:30:03

A Supreme Court lawyer has served a legal notice to Sarjis Alam, Chief Organiser (North) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), alleging against him a contempt of court.

Lawyer Jashimuddin sent the notice on Saturday morning over Sarjis’s comment on the court’s verdict that declared that there is no legal bar for BNP leader Ishraque Hossain to take an oath as mayor.

On Thursday (May 22), after a writ petition over the issue was dismissed, Sarjis in a Facebook post questioned the integrity of the High Court, stating, “If High Court verdicts can be influenced by mob pressure, then what’s the need for such a court?”

Lawyer Jashimuddin said, “Sarjis’s post is contempt of court. Such comment tarnish the dignity of the court.

“He must issue an unconditional public apology within two hours of receiving the notice,” he added.
