Starlink begins official operations in Bangladesh with two packages

Published: 20 May 2025, 2:20:35

Starlink, the satellite internet service by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has officially launched operations in Bangladesh, according to an announcement made on Tuesday, 20 May.

The news was shared via Facebook by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser. Taiyeb stated that Starlink representatives informed him of the development during a phone call on 19 May, later confirming the launch through their official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Starlink will initially offer two packages in Bangladesh: Starlink Residence and Residence Lite. The monthly subscription costs are set at Tk 6,000 and Tk 4,200 respectively. Customers will also need to pay a one-time equipment fee of Tk 47,000.

“There will be no speed or data limits,” Taiyeb noted. “Users will enjoy unlimited data at speeds of up to 300 Mbps.” Orders from Bangladeshi customers can be placed starting today.

He added that the launch fulfills the Chief Adviser’s goal of enabling Starlink’s operation in the country within 90 days.

While acknowledging the high cost, Taiyeb emphasized the service’s potential benefits: “This creates a sustainable alternative for premium customers to access high-quality and high-speed internet services.”

He further highlighted opportunities for businesses, NGOs, freelancers, and entrepreneurs to access uninterrupted internet in remote or underserved areas where traditional fiber connections are unavailable.

Starlink’s entry into Bangladesh follows approval from the interim government, marking the arrival of the country’s first authorised Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) satellite internet provider.
