Key quotes: PSG edge Arsenal 1-0 in Champions League semi-final first leg

Published: 30 April 2025, 8:44:48

Vitinha (PSG midfielder):

“It’s a good statement, it’s very hard to win here. We thought that in October (when PSG lost 2-0). We played well even if we didn’t have the ball like we usually do. That’s what good teams do, when they have to defend, they defend.”
– On PSG adapting their game to secure the win.

“We could have scored more today, but we’re happy with this result. It’s not finished but it was a good display of teamwork.”

– On the result and collective performance.

“There were people who didn’t believe in us, but we don’t care. These incredible supporters have backed us here and at the Parc. We are all in this together.”

– Looking ahead to the second leg and praising the fans.

Gonçalo Ramos (PSG striker):

“The work’s not over. We’ve won one match but the tie will be decided over two. We looked Arsenal in the eye, we put in the work, played our football and we won.”
– On PSG staying focused ahead of the return leg.

David Raya (Arsenal goalkeeper):

“They started quick with a goal and dominated the first 15–20 minutes, but after that we dominated most of the game and created the chances. Donnarumma made some good saves. It’s only half-time.”
– Reflecting on the match and looking ahead.

“We played well, we put them on the backfoot and created a lot of chances. We know we can win against any team.”
– On Arsenal’s belief heading into the second leg.

William Saliba (Arsenal defender):

“We weren’t surprised, we knew PSG were a very good team. We started poorly, but we woke up afterwards even if we weren’t able to equalise.”

– On Arsenal’s slow start and improved performance.

“It’s 1-0, we mustn’t get down. There’s a second match. We know in the Champions League, a lot of things can happen.”
– On staying optimistic for the return leg.
