Bangladesh receives $1.05bn in remittances in first 12 days of April

Published: 15 April 2025, 7:23:00

Bangladesh received US$1.05 billion in remittances during the first 12 days of April, according to the latest data released by Bangladesh Bank.

This translates to a daily average of $87.69 million sent by expatriate Bangladeshis, reinforcing the continued significance of remittance as a key pillar of the country’s foreign currency reserves.

However, the figure marks a slight decline from the same period in March, when Bangladesh recorded a robust $3.29 billion in total remittances, averaging $109.85 million per day — the highest monthly inflow in recent months.

Despite the marginal dip, economists and financial analysts note that the steady flow of remittances remains crucial for stabilising the country’s balance of payments and supporting domestic consumption, particularly during festive and high-expenditure periods such as Ramadan and Eid.

Remittance inflows are expected to remain strong in the coming weeks, driven by heightened overseas transactions during the Eid season, banking officials said.
