BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has highlighted the importance of ensuring women’s safety as a critical factor in defining a modern state.
In a post on his verified Facebook page this morning, on the eve of International Women’s Day, Fakhrul called for the elimination of extremism, hatred, and disrespect towards women.
“Ensuring women’s safety is the most important determinant of a modern state. Let us say no to all acts of extremism, hatred, and disrespect towards women. We urge the interim government to consolidate law and order,” he stated.
Fakhrul also reflected on the hardships faced by women in families affected by enforced disappearances, killings, and torture over the past fifteen years. He emphasized that these women endured unimaginable struggles during that period.
The movement for justice, he noted, was initiated by women in Bangladesh in July, with people from all religious backgroundsHindus, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhistsjoining the cause.
“We aim to build a Bangladesh where the primary goal of law enforcement agencies is to ensure the security of its citizens. We envision a Bangladesh where every citizen, regardless of gender, age, or profession, feels safe to walk the streets. Their self-respect should be upheld everywherefrom home to the streets, universities, and workplaces,” Fakhrul added.
He reiterated that there is no place for extremism in a modern, fascism-free Bangladesh.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day tomorrow, Fakhrul emphasized, “Women are partners in our development and progress. On the eve of International Women’s Day, let’s take action to accelerate our advancement.”
