Manik, Salman, Anisul among 7 placed on 2-day remand

A Dhaka court on Monday, granted two-day remand to seven people, including former Justice Abul Hossain Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, former Prime Minister’s Advisor Salman F Rahman, former Law Minister Anisul Haque, in murder case of auto-rickshaw driver Hafizul Sikder in Badda during the anti-discrimination movement on Monday (February 3).
The other accused on remand are former Social Welfare Minister Dr. Dipu Moni, former State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former Mayor Atiqul Islam and Sramik League leader Golam Sarwar Pintu.
The Court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate G. M. Farhan Istiak, granted the remand plea rejecting their bail petition.
CID Police Inspector Ridwanul Haque, the investigation officer of the case from Dhaka Metro North, prayed for a 5-day remand for them.
Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor (PP) Omar Faruk Faruki argued for the state to grant remand, while the defendants’ lawyers prayed for cancellation of remand and for bail. After the hearing, the court rejected the bail application and ordered a 2-day remand for each.
