Postgraduate private trainee doctors of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) who passed the first phase of FCPS have blocked road at Shahbagh in the capital, demanding an increase in allowance.
They took up position at Shahbagh intersection around 11:30 am on Sunday (December 29) with the trainee doctors were chanting slogans such as “Fulfil the doctors’ demands,” “No discrimination in Bangladesh,” and “We demand Tk50,000 allowance.”
Earlier, the monthly allowance for these trainees was increased from Tk25,000 to Tk30,000, a decision announced by Syed Ali Bin Hasan, deputy secretary of the Regulation Division of the Ministry of Finance, on Tuesday.
However, the increment failed to satisfy the trainees. On the same day, the apprentice doctors held a protest rally at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), rejecting the Tk5,000 hike. They reiterated their demand for an increase to Tk50,000 and vowed to continue their agitation until the demand is met.
Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Munsur said that unpaid trainees blocked Shahbagh intersection after 11:30 am. They blocked the road demanding that their honorarium or allowance be increased to Tk 50,000. They are still blocking the road.
