A Chittagong court on Tuesday deferred the hearing by one month on bail petition of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in a sedition case.
The court set January 2 for holding the next hearing.
The Chittagong Metropolitan Session Judge Saiful Islam set the new date around 11AM as the defence lawyer was not present in the court.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police ADC (Prosecution) Mofizur Rahman confirmed this to media.
Chinmoy was not brought to court for hearing. Lawyers were seen holding a protest march on the court premises in the morning.
As the lawyers boycotted the court over lawyer Saiful Islam Alif murder, no hearing was held on November 27.
On November 26, Chittagong 6th Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam rejected Chinmoy’s bail in the sedition case and sent him to jail.
This decision angered members of the Hindu community, who staged a protest around the prison van carrying Chinmoy outside the court. The protesters vandalised several motorcycles and vehicles on the Court Road and damaged glass shards littered the second floor of the Court Mosque Complex, where lawyers’ chambers are located.
Lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was killed on the Rangam Convention Hall road by some criminals.
