The government has taken an initiative to sell egg at affordable price at 13 places under Dhaka North and South City Corporations from Sunday (November 10).
Mohammad Alim Akhter Khan, director general of the Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection (DNCRP), told this while addressing a programme at the FDC in the capital on Saturday.
The consumers will be able to purchase the eggs at a low price from seven locations under the DSCC and six locations under the DNCC, he said.
He said the government has taken some initiatives to control the price of essential commodities during Ramadan. In this regard, the government has already withdrew import duty on some products, including onion, potato and eggs.
Besides, the government official emphasised the need for good governance to eliminate syndicates in the kitchen market for the overall market situation ahead of Ramadan.
Currently, a dozen chicken eggs (layer) are being sold for Tk 150, duck eggs for Tk 240, Paragon brown eggs for Tk 205, and deshi chicken eggs for Tk 240.
