5 more die from dengue, death toll stands 45 in first 8 days of Nov

Five more people died from dengue and 466 others were hospitalised after being infected by the viral disease during the last 24 hours till Friday morning.

With latest casualties, the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease reached 45 in the first eight days of the current month.

This year dengue has claimed 342 lives so far. Of them, 134 died in the month of October. Most of the deceased were women.

Besides, 69,922 patients have been admitted to hospitals being infected with the mosquito-borne disease. Majority of the dengue infected people are male.

It was known through a bulletin sent from the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday (November 8) evening.

The bulletin stated that 242 dengue infected patients were admitted to different hospitals in the capital till Friday morning. Besides (outside the city corporations), 92 were admitted in Dhaka division, 50 in Chittagong division, 43 in Khulna division, 20 in Mymensingh division, 9 in Rajshahi division, 6 in Barisal division, 3 in Sylhet division and one in Rangpur division.

A total of 4,287 dengue infected patients were taking treatment at various hospitals across the country till Friday morning.

It may be mentioned that 1,705 people died from dengue in the country last year, while 3,21,179 people were infected by the mosquito-borne disease.
