RAB removed from Sagar-Runi murder probe

The High Court has removed the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from investigation in the journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi murder case.
At the same time, the court also directed the home ministry to form a high-powered task force to investigate the case. After forming task force, the report will have to be submitted within the next six months.
The High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Muhammad Mahbubul Islam passed the order.
On Sunday (September 29) Supreme Court Advocate Shishir Monir was appointed to represent the murder case.
He said, “The mystery behind the murder of journalist couple Sagar-Runi can be unearthed through an intense investigation.”
Earlier, the government has filed an application seeking its order on authorities concerned to remove RAB from the investigation into the murder case.
Journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi were murdered as their flat at West Rayer Bazar on February 11, 2012.
The mystery into the murder could not be unearthed though more than a decade has already passed.
Following the incident, Runi’s brother, Naosher Alam Roman, filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
