A sedition case has been filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and three former chief election commissioners (CECs) in Chittagong for holding illegal and fraudulent elections.
The three CECs are Kazi Rakib Uddin Ahmad, KM Nurul Huda and Kazi Habibul Awal.
Valiant freedom fighter Ekramul Karim, also the former general secretary of the Chittagong City BNP, filed the case with the court of Chittagoing Metropolitan Magistrate-6 Kazi Shariful Islam on Wednesday.
The court accepted the case and ordered police to investigate it.
Other accused of the case are former election commissioners (ECs) Abu Hafiz, Md Jabed Ali, Abdul Mobarak, Md Shahnewaz, Rafiqul Islam, Kabitan Khanam, Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury, Brigadier General (Retd) Ahsan Habib Khan, Begum Rasheda Sultana, Md Alamgir and Anisur Rahman; and former EC secretaries Helal Uddin Ahmed and Jahangir Alam, and former Road Transport minister Obaidul Quader, and the MPs of the last three parliaments.
Kofil Uddin, lawyer of the plaintiff, said “In the last three elections, many popular leaders, including the opposition, did not participate. Ordinary people were unable to exercise their vote. In the three elections held at great expense, administration officials, including the commissioners, violated the constitution. For this, a case of sedition and fraud has been filed.”
