Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) of Dhaka District Md Abdullahil Kafi has been suspended over the allegations of killing and burning students in Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital, during the student-led mass uprising on August 5.

The Police Branch-1 of the Public Security Division of the Home Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Monday.

Md Abdullahil Kafi, Additional Police Superintendent of Dhaka District (promoted to Supernumerary Police Superintendent) has been arrested in connection with cases filed with Dhanmondi and Hazaribag police stations.

Consequently, he has been temporarily suspended from government service as of September 3, the notification read.

During his suspension, Kafi will be attached to the Barishal Range DIG office and will receive a subsistence allowance as per regulations. This decision was issued in public interest, it added.

Earlier, on September 2, detectives detained the police officer Abdullahil Kafi from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday night when he was trying to flee Bangladesh.
