Man surrenders after killing wife in Moulvibazar

A man surrendered himself to police allegedly after killing his wife at Kamolganj upazila in Moulvibazar district on Sunday morning.
The victim was Shilpi Akter, 23, wife of Safar Ali, a resident of Baghmara village under ward no-6 in the upazila sadar.
According to locals, there had been a family dispute between Shilpi Akter and Safar Ali over going abroad without permission of the accused.
When the victim, mother of a 5-year-old child, returned home from abroad, her husband came to know that she was three months pregnant.
As sequel to it, an altercation and a fight broke out between the duo and at one stage of the fight, Safar Ali slaughtered his wife Shilpi Akter to death with a sharp machete around 11am on Sunday, said Abdul Motin, member of the ward.
Safar Ali then, went to Kamolganj Police Station and surrendered with the weapon used in the killing, said Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Anisur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sreemangal-Kamolganj Circle), confirmed the matter and added that interrogation was underway and legal action will be taken in this regard.
