AL govt involved in harassment of US ambassador, alleges BNP
The Awami League government itself was involved in harassment of United States Ambassador Peter Haas in Dhaka on Wednesday, alleged Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Thursday (December 15, 2022).
Expressing profound regret for the ‘harassment of Ambassador Haas’ after he came out of missing BNP leader Sajedul Islam Sumon’s residence at Shaheenbagh in Dhaka on Wednesday morning, BNP’s acting office secretary Emran Saleh Prince said, “None in Bangladesh, even foreigners are not safe due to the sick politics under Awami League’s misrule. The government itself was involved in harassment of the US Ambassador.”
He made the remarks while addressing a press conference held at BNP central office at Naya Paltan in the capital early Thursday (December 15) afternoon.
Emran Saleh Prince said, “The languages used by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen following the incident of harassment with the US ambassador indicate that they themselves were involved in the incident. Instigating their people, they sent them to Shaheenbagh to launch attack on Ambassador Haas’ flag carrying car. They also harassed the ambassador.”
“Earlier, an attack was launched on US Ambassador Bernicat’s car at Mohammadpur in Dhaka at the directive of this government. None has forgot it,” Prince said.
“We strongly condemn and protest the attack. The image of Bangladesh will be badly tarnished abroad due to the incident. Moreover, the incident proves that there is no democracy, rule of law, and human rights in Bangladesh. The misrule that has been going on in Bangladesh will be exposed further,” the BNP leader said.
The press conference was also attended by BNP’s organising secretary Abdus Salam Azad, assistant office secretary Taiful Islam Tipu, among others.
