BNP wants Arambagh as alternative venue for Dhaka rally

BNP Publicity Secretary Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie has said that they want to hold their December 10 rally in Dhaka’s Arambagh as the alternative venue. They would not accept any proposal to hold the party’s divisional rally at any venue, he added.
“We have told them clearly that Suhrawardy Udyan is unsafe. We will not hold any rally there,” the BNP leader told journalists in front of BNP’s central office at Nayapaltan on Tuesday.
He said, “We have had arranged many programmes in front of BNP’s office in the past peacefully. Many rallies were also held there. All those programmes were held on streets. As like the past, we want to hold the Dhaka rally in front of the party office peacefully.”
About BNP’s proposal for the alternative venue, the BNP Publicity Secretary said, “However, as they (DMP) have requested us to give the name of alternative venue from various aspects, we have made them a proposal. We want to hold the rally in front of Ideal School in Arambagh. There is also a field besides that school.”
Mentioning that December 10 is a public holiday, the BNP leader said, “We can hold the rally there on that day as it is a holiday.”
The BNP leader expressed hope that police will co-operate them to hold the grand rally in the city.
He further said, “If they denied co-operating with us then we have to hold the rally within Nayapaltan area.”
About DMP commissioner’s remark that BNP would not be allowed to hold rally on street, Annie said, “Where can we hold the rally without street? We are people of the street, and will do our programme on street. We decided to take to the street. Inshallah, they will be bound to allow us to hold rally on the street. We hope that they will cooperate with us. If not, they have to take the responsibility.”
The BNP leader said, “We are hopeful they they would allow us to do the rally in front of the BNP office. If they deny giving permission for holding rally at party office then they would considerate about our alternative venue at Arambagh.”
He said, “We have said I earlier that Suhrawardy Udyan is an unsafe place. We do not hold rally there.”
“There are many conspiracies centering the Suhrawardy Udyan. We know that. It is not a safe venue.”
